چکیده مقاله:

The development of the construction industry on one hand, and the importance of its cost-effectiveness along with suitable quality on the other hand, have led to the emergence of new technologies in this industry. One of the issues that has gained the attention of builders and activists in this field in recent years is the use of mechanical splices as a replacement for lap splices (overlapping reinforcing bars). In this method, instead of placing the reinforcing bars on top of each other and fastening them with tie wire, a threaded intermediate piece called a coupler is used. In this case, the reinforcing bars are cut to the desired dimensions, and their ends are threaded using a special machine. Considering that the quality of using lap splices is entirely related to the concrete used, and also that international codes limit the use of this type of splice for reinforcing bars with a diameter greater than ۳۶ mm, mechanical splices can be considered a suitable alternative to lap splices, regardless of the aforementioned limitations. This article examines mechanical splices and existing limitations in accordance with international standards and the Ninth Chapter of the National Building Regulations.
