Sustainable development strategy for protecting the ozone layer

The stratospheric ozone layer, serving as Earth's critical defense against detrimental ultraviolet (UV) radiation, is indispensable for safeguarding life and the vitality of global ecosystems. Nevertheless, in recent decades, the release of anthropogenically produced chemical compounds, particularly chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and halons, has led to substantial thinning of this protective layer. This scholarly work comprehensively examines the interplay between sustainable development, the green economy paradigm, and the imperative of ozone layer protection. We assess the advancements realized through the Montreal Protocol and its subsequent adjustments, evaluating successful approaches for the gradual elimination of ozone-depleting substances (ODS). Furthermore, we investigate the influence of technological breakthroughs, governmental policies, private sector engagement, and public awareness initiatives in ensuring the complete restoration of the ozone layer and the realization of a sustainable, ecologically sound future. The overarching aim is to present a strategic pathway to foster the synergistic alignment between sustainable development objectives and ozone preservation for succeeding generations.
