چکیده مقاله:

The rapid population growth, uncontrolled urban development, and conversion of adjacent lands have had adverse effects on urban hydrology, and neglecting these issues leads to problems such as urban flooding. In response to this challenge, this study, using a qualitative-analytical approach and based on library research, content analysis of sources, and field investigations, examines and analyzes hydrological factors in the theoretical literature. It attempts, by considering the limitations and opportunities arising from these factors, to not only reduce hydrological risks but also transform these limitations into opportunities for water-oriented design, thereby enhancing environmental livability, especially in the hot and arid climate of Iran. The Mahkar lands in Yazd, selected as the case study of this research, are located in the southeastern part of Yazd city and possess special hydrological and topographical potentials due to the presence of seasonal waterways, qanat systems, and pits resulting from traditional brick kilns. These features can be utilized in planning and designing livable neighborhoods. Ultimately, by integrating the findings and analyzing the hydrological factors affecting site development, a conceptual framework and a set of guidelines for land development plans are presented with the aim of risk reduction, utilization of natural capacities, and improvement of livability in Iran's hot and arid climate.
