چکیده مقاله:

Atmospheric dust drives biogeochemical changes in aquatic ecosystems, often overlooked yet significant. This review examines aeolian dust deposition's role in triggering and intensifying harmful algal blooms (HABS) across freshwater and marine environments. Literature from ۲۰۰۰-۲۰۲۴ reveals dust particles from deserts, dry lakebeds, and disturbed lands carry bioavailable iron, phosphorus, and nitrogen, enhancing primary productivity. These nutrients, deposited via dry and wet processes, promote toxic algal species like Karenia brevis, Pseudo-nitzschia, and Microcystis aeruginosa. Impact varies with dust chemistry, solubility, hydrodynamics, and ecological baselines. Research gaps include limited long-term data and integration of dust nutrients into ecosystem models. Understanding dust-aquatic ecosystem interactions is crucial for managing HABS in a changing climate.
