چکیده مقاله:
Background: Patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery often experience a diminished quality of life (QoL) and encounter various challenges after discharge. Improving their lifestyle can be facilitated through effective patient education. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the impact of patient education on QoL and post-discharge issues following CABG surgery. Methods: This clinical trial involved ۱۶۴ patients scheduled for CABG at Palestine Complex Hospital in Ramallah and Arab Specialized Hospital in Nablus, Palestine. Subjects were selected through convenience sampling and divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received a structured educational program, including a booklet and DVD, prior to the operation, while the control group received standard verbal instructions. Data were collected using four tools, with patients completing a home follow-up form and the SF-۳۶ Health Survey QoL form at ۲ days, ۱۰ days, and one-month post-discharge. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, independent t-tests, and paired t-tests.Results: The demographic characteristics of the intervention and control groups were matched, except for differences in education level, age, BMI, and income. Prior to the intervention, there was no significant difference in QoL scores between the two groups, except for limitations due to physical health. After the intervention, significant improvements were observed in the QoL across all domains in the intervention group, which also reported fewer post-operative issues compared to the control group. Conclusion: Implementing a patient education program significantly enhanced QoL and reduced post-operative problems in patients undergoing CABG surgery. Therefore, it is recommended to utilize educational materials such as booklets and DVDs to inform patients with coronary artery disease.
