چکیده مقاله:
Cosmetic products are playing an increasingly vital role in modern society, with their use widely recognized as an important part of personal wellness. This highlights the need for a thorough and detailed examination of how nanoparticles (NPs) are used in cosmetics. The purpose of this review is to provide a critical and comprehensive analysis of the impact of nanomaterials in advanced cosmetic formulations, focusing on the positive effects of their broad application in next-generation products, despite ongoing skepticism about nanotechnology in cosmetics. The review also interprets the general information found on product labels of formulations currently available on the market—information that often lacks specifics about the exact components, particularly when nanomaterials are involved. The primary focus is on skincare products, as this sector is where nanotechnology’s influence is most pronounced. To date, nanotechnology has been shown to enhance cosmetic performance in several ways: ۱) improving both the efficiency of active ingredient encapsulation and its penetration into the skin, ۲) enabling controlled release of the active compounds, ۳) increasing physical stability, ۴) enhancing moisturizing effects, and ۵) offering superior UV protection. Special attention is given to the role of nanoparticles in semi-solid formulations and their effect on skin penetration. Given the growing concerns about nanoparticle toxicity, a dedicated section reviews detailed examples of nanocosmetic products whose safety has been thoroughly evaluated.
