Modification of clinoptilolite natural zeolite by graphitic carbon nitride (g -C۳N۴) and its application for photodegradation of methyl orange

In this study, the photodegradation process of methyl orange as the organic pollutant using the composite of Clinoptilolite@g_C ۳N۴ as photocatalyst was studied. The Clinoptilolite@g_C ۳N۴ was characterized with different techniques of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and BET analysis. Results indicated that the XRD pattern of the Clinoptilolite and synthesized g_C ۳N۴ were in good agreement with the patterns of Clinoptilolite and g_C ۳N۴ of the previous reports. Based on BET analysis, the synthesis of Clinoptilolite@g_C ۳N۴ is in the category of semi-porous materials. Also, to optimize the parameters affecting the removal percentage of methyl orange by the Clinoptilolite@g_C ۳N۴. The design of experiments with response surface methodology (RSM) and Design Expert software was used. Based on the design of the experiment, the parameters of time, pollutant concentration and adsorbent amount are more significant compared to other parameters and are known as effective parameters. Based on the results obtained, the best conditions for the photodegradation experiment were as follows: the amount of photocatalyst was ۱ g, the time ۱۲۰ min and the pollutant concentration ۱۰ ppm. Under optimized conditions, ۹۱.۱% of methyl orange was degraded.
