چکیده مقاله:
This study investigates the corrosion inhibition performance of Tradescantia pallida (inch plant) leaf extract on mild steel in ۱.۰ M HCl, as an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to synthetic inhibitors. The aqueous extract, containing bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and phenolics, was tested at various volume concentrations, with particular attention to its adsorption and surface-protective properties. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the extract at inhibiting corrosion. The Nyquist plots exhibited a consistent increase in charge transfer resistance (Rct) with higher extract concentrations, indicating reduced corrosion activity. At ۲۰% (v/v) extract concentration, a maximum inhibition efficiency of ۹۲.۹% was achieved. This confirms the ability of the plant-based compounds to form a compact and adherent film on the steel surface, impeding electron transfer processes associated with corrosion. The mechanism of inhibition is mainly attributed to the adsorption of phytochemicals onto the steel surface. This behavior is comparable to adsorption phenomena in porous materials, where molecular interactions between surface sites and guest species play a key role in performance. Such analogies underline the broader relevance of this study in the context of adsorption science and green surface protection technologies. These findings demonstrate the viability of T. pallida extract as a natural, cost-effective corrosion inhibitor with promising application in acidic and industrial environments. Further research may focus on combining such natural inhibitors with porous substrates, such as zeolitic or mesoporous materials, to enhance their stability, reusability, and long-term efficiency.
