Evaluation of a Novel Topical Aloe Vera-Honey-Zinc Formulation for Postoperative Wound Healing After Ovariohysterectomy in Female Cats

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a topical formulation containing aloe vera, medical-grade honey, and zinc oxide on wound healing following ovariohysterectomy (OHE) in female cats. Twenty healthy adult female cats were randomly divided into two groups. The treatment group received the topical ointment daily at the surgical site, while the control group underwent wound cleaning with saline only. Wound healing was evaluated on days ۰, ۳, ۵, ۷, and ۱۰ based on clinical criteria including inflammation, discharge, and closure rate. The topical formulation significantly enhanced wound healing and reduced inflammation compared to the control group. The combination ointment appears to be a safe and effective option for post-surgical wound management in small animals.
