A Linguistic Journey Through Time Reviewing the Development of the Korean Language

This article aims to investigate the historical development of the Korean language within a linguistic-historical framework. Through an extensive review of historical and linguistic sources, the research identifies and analyzes three major historical periods of the Korean language: Old Korean, Middle Korean, and Modern Korean. Each period demonstrates significant phonological, morphological, and syntactic changes influenced by social, political, and cultural factors. The study highlights how external influences, such as contact with neighboring languages and political shifts, contributed to the evolution of Korean. Findings reveal the crucial role of historical context in understanding the structural and functional aspects of the contemporary Korean language. Moreover, the article emphasizes the importance of historical linguistics for deeper insights into language change and preservation. Finally, it suggests directions for future research, including the exploration of regional dialects and language contact phenomena, to enrich the understanding of Korean linguistic history. This research contributes to both linguistic theory and practical applications in language education and cultural studies.
