Economic Pressure and Psychological Distress: the mediation of relative deprivation

The nemesis of economic predicaments in Iran has an unequivocal relationship with psychological health issues; nevertheless, the mechanism linking economic pressure to psychological distress has received scant attention. Employing relative deprivation theory, this cross-sectional research used convenience sampling to collect data. Hypotheses were tested on a sample of ۲۷۵ nurses in diverse hospitals in different cities in Iran. The results verified both reliability and validity. Using the PROCESS Module of SPSS, the results showed that, after controlling for several variables (i.e., gender, age, education, and tenure), it was found that economic pressure is positively and directly related to psychological distress. Moreover, relative deprivation plays a partial mediator in this relationship. Several key theoretical and practical implications of this research are mentioned in the discussion section.
