چکیده مقاله:

The present study aimed to examine what lexical cohesive devices were used in Iranian EFL learners' written narrative task in Persian. To this end, twenty Iranian EFL learners participated in the current study. To gather the required data, they were asked to write down the story of a picture story containing six pictures in Persian. Halliday and Hasan's (۱۹۷۶) model of cohesion was used as the theoretical framework. The results showed that the pattern of lexical cohesive devices deployment was" repetition", "collocation", "synonym", "superordinate", and "general word"; additionally, "repetition" and "collocation" were frequently used in written narrative task whereas "general word" was the least frequent lexical cohesive device employed in Iranian EFL learners' written narrative production. The research results can help learners to be aware of cohesive devices in order to use them appropriately to show the smooth flow of information and ideas in their narrative writing to avoid miscommunication.
