The Transformation of Parental and Children Roles in Families Affected by Addiction: Examining the Impact of Addiction on Family Dynamics

This review article aims to examine the transformation of parental and children's roles within families affected by addiction. Addiction does not only impact the individual but also profoundly alters the roles, relationships, and functioning of family systems. The shift in familial roles, such as parents becoming caregivers or enablers and children assuming adult-like responsibilities, leads to complex psychological, emotional, and social consequences. This article explores these transformations through a comprehensive review of the existing literature, addressing both global studies and research specific to Iran. The review highlights the challenges faced by families in coping with addiction and provides insights into therapeutic approaches that target family dynamics, offering solutions for restoring balance and promoting recovery within the family system.
