The Influence of Community Networks on the Effectiveness of Participatory Urban Planning Initiatives

This study investigates the impact of pre-existing social relations and community networks on the success of participatory urban planning initiatives. It hypothesizes that stronger social ties and more robust network structures within a community positively correlate with higher levels of engagement, more equitable distribution of benefits, and greater overall satisfaction with the outcomes of participatory planning processes. A mixed-methods approach, combining social network analysis and qualitative interviews, was employed in three distinct urban neighborhoods undergoing participatory planning. The findings suggest that the density and bridging capacity of community networks significantly influence the effectiveness and perceived fairness of these initiatives.
