A scoping review of investigation the effectiveness of family empowerment on adherence to treatment in patients with hypertension

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular disease. adherence to treatment are effective factors in controlling and preventing the effects of hypertensive blood. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of family-centered empowerment model on adherence to treatment in patients with primary hypertension. Methods: A literature search of the Cochrane Library, PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and several Iranian medical databases was performed. Study screening, quality assessment, data extraction, and meta-analysis were conducted according to Cochrane standards. Results: A total of ۱۱ articles were identified from a pool of ۲,۳۵۵ articles in the search results. To enhance perceived threat, self-efficacy, and self-confidence, the family-involved educational intervention is carried out in stages. The outcomes assessed included knowledge, family engagement, blood pressure, quality of life, and behavioral changes. It also increase adherence to treatment and reduce blood pressure of patients. Conclusion: Education based on family-centered empowerment model increased adherence to treatment and reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure of patients, so it is recommended to use this model in clinics, different wards of the hospital by trained nurses and medical staff.
