Ethical aspects of using artificial intelligence in midwifery services (A narrative review)

چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: The use of AI applications offers various benefits. But there are serious concerns about its ethical use. the replacement of human employees with AI-powered machines, customer and employee discomfort, and trust. Artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize midwifery by improving clinical efficiency, reducing complications, and enhancing patient education. However, addressing ethical, legal, and technical challenges is essential for its responsible implementation. Material and Methods: Studies included in this review were selected based on their relevance to AI applications in midwifery services and focusing on ethical considerations. Inclusion criteria encompassed peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and relevant research papers using keywords and published in English and Persian between ۲۰۱۷ and ۲۰۲۵. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across ۵ databases: pub med, google scholar and science direct, ProQuest Advanced Technologies & Aerospace, and Wiley Cochrane Library. Findings: The literature search yielded ۶۷۷ articles. After removing duplicates and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, ۹ studies were included in the review. It is essential and inevitable to pay attention to ethical points from the very beginning of use of AI in midwifery services. Among the things that should be observed are Protect autonomy, foster responsibility and accountability, Ensure inclusiveness and equity, Empathy. Conclusion: In conclusion, while AI holds promise for enhancing midwifery services, careful consideration of ethical, legal, and professional implications is essential. Ensuring that AI integration supports, rather than undermines, the core values of midwifery will require ongoing dialogue, education, and collaboration among stakeholders.
