Cavitation and flashing are two critical fluid dynamic phenomena that severely affect the performance and longevity of industrial valves. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the mechanisms behind cavitation and flashing, highlighting their consequences—such as material erosion, noise, vibration, and system failure—in high-pressure valve applications. Various prevention strategies are explored, including structural valve design modifications, operational control methods, material and surface enhancements, and advanced intelligent technologies. The effectiveness of multi-stage throttling, cage-type designs, vortex flow mechanisms, and bionic structures is discussed alongside operational strategies like pressure management and aeration. Additionally, advancements in material science, such as hardfacing and surface coatings, are evaluated for their role in enhancing cavitation resistance. Finally, cutting-edge approaches like intelligent control systems and micro-jet technology are presented as future-forward solutions. This study aims to serve as a resource for engineers and researchers seeking to mitigate cavitation and flashing through integrated design, operational, and material innovations.
