Abolghasem Rahmani: A Writer from the Heart of the People, with a Pen Shaped by Life

This article explores the life and works of Abolghasem Rahmani, a prominent Iranian writer, journalist, and cultural figure—an individual whose writing, rooted in lived experience, reflects the social, cultural, and political concerns of his society. Rahmani’s works can be thematically categorized into three main areas: socio-critical, familial-emotional, and cultural-historical. In his social writings, he addresses cultural issues, social disorders, poverty, discrimination, and the status of women through fluent prose and vivid descriptions. His familial narratives, often written in the form of popular novels, focus on human relationships, love, loyalty, and betrayal. In his cultural works, Rahmani employs a clear and unpretentious language to examine global influences on human societies and their reflection in everyday life. He began his professional career as a teacher and later entered the fields of journalism and writing. Years of managing the Ettela'at newspaper in the provinces of Qazvin and Gilan, along with collaborations with various publications, solidified his position in the country’s cultural landscape. His realistic style, simple language, and tangible storytelling are among the most notable features of his work. Critics have also noted similarities between his writing style and that of the French author Honoré de Balzac. The aim of this study is to analyze Rahmani’s writing style, categorize the themes of his works, and examine his social and cultural standing in contemporary Iranian literature. The research method is qualitative and descriptive-analytical, and the data have been collected through the study of written works, relevant publications, and research sources.
