Magnetometric monitoring is an important addition to any existing methods of pipeline technical condition assessment. The oil pipeline is exposed to external and internal factors of various genesis, which create a stressed and deformed state. The monitoring method is based on detection of changes in the external magnetic field in the immediate vicinity of the buried pipeline. They generally accepted approach to recording changes in magnetometer signals is visual tracking of anomalies of complex morphology resembling a dipole response and certain oscillatory dynamics. Existing methods for interpreting magnetometer data are still imperfect, even after thirty years of testing. In this paper, we develop a methodology for improving the interpretation of data from non-contact magnetometric monitoring of pipelines, which are used for transporting hydrocarbon substances. Non-contact and non-destructive testing is conducted along the axes of pipelines. The purpose of the tests is to diagnose the condition of underground pipelines buried in soils with variable bearing capacity, aiming to prevent environmental accidents while minimizing costs. The results of standard geological and geophysical approaches in solving direct and inverse problems for a submerged geotechnical object, as well as parameterization of magnetometry data by cluster analysis, are demonstrated.
