Tragic Analysis of Rostam and Sohrab's Battle in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh: A Study of Fate and Free Will

This paper examines the tragic elements in the battle between Rostam and Sohrab within Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, focusing on the conflict between fate and free will. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the study draws upon library research and comparative literary analysis. Key findings reveal how Ferdowsi employs Greek tragic devices like anagnorisis (late recognition) to critique the consequences of pride and prejudice in human destiny. The battle is interpreted as both a personal tragedy and a symbolic clash between tradition and modernity. The research highlights the importance of critical re-reading of Persian epic literature in contemporary scholarship.
