Electrochemical Investigation of g-C۳N۴ Decorated with NiO Nanoparticles for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

In the domain of electrocatalysis for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), significant progress has been made in enhancing the efficiency of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C۳N۴) substrates. This was achieved by synthesizing and strategically depositing nickel oxide (NiO) onto the g-C۳N۴ nanostructure, resulting in a notable improvement in electrocatalytic performance. In this study, characterization of the targeted nanostructure using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), along with X-ray diffraction (XRD), confirmed the enhanced performance, showing promising potential for advancing HER. The obtained results indicate that the NiO/g-C۳N۴ nanocomposite showed an overpotential of ۷۱۱ mV in current density of ۱۰ mA.cm². Furthermore, the double-layer capacitance of ۲ µF/cm² and the electrochemical active surface area of ۲.۲۵ cm² was determined for NiO/g-C۳N۴ nanocomposite.
