چکیده مقاله:

Accurate validation and calibration of earthquake loss models depend on high-quality impact data, which is often lacking or insufficiently detailed. In this work, we present the development of an open-access global database that compiles information on damage, losses, and ground shaking from significant historical earthquakes. This effort builds upon the U.S. Geological Survey’s ShakeMap Atlas and significantly expands the availability of comprehensive earthquake-related data. The database includes detailed records of impacts, such as building damage, economic losses, casualties, and displacement, alongside corresponding ground shaking data. It also provides rupture models and recorded ground motion parameters in a format compatible with the OpenQuake-engine, enabling users to simulate ground motion fields and assess related losses. Currently, the database covers over ۱۰۰ historical events and serves as a valuable resource for scenario development and impact analysis. Additionally, we explore key factors influencing earthquake impacts and propose improvements for future data collection efforts. The complete dataset is openly accessible via: https://github.com/gem/geid.
