In this study, Teucrium polium plant extract was studied as eco-friendly inhibitor for corrosion controlling of mild steel in ۳.۵ wt.% NaCl solution. The plant extract was prepared in aqueous medium. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to study the corrosion behavior of steel samples. Also, surface analysis was performed using scanning electron microscopy and Energy-dispersive Xray spectroscopy. The results of electrochemical analysis showed that Teucrium polium extract is effective corrosion inhibitor in Cl-containing media for mild steel. The maximum inhibition efficiency was obtained in the presence of ۵۰۰ ppm plant extract with ۲ times larger corrosion resistance after ۲۴ h immersion. Based on the results, the impedance resistance reaches more than ۲۰۰۰ ohm.cm۲ for optimum sample related to the additive-free sample which shows impedance resistance about ۹۹۰ ohm.cm۲. Also, surface studies and diffusion-controlled situation in impedance plots showed that the protection mechanism was surface film formation in the presence of inhibitor.
