Mountain Vulnerability Assessments Method: A Rapid Overview

Mountain areas contain unique and diverse resources upon which human life is highly dependent. These areas, due to their special conditions, exhibit high sensitivity and significant fragility. Consequently, human interventions in these regions should be approached with wisdom and intelligence. Vulnerability assessment methods provide part of the toolkit required for intelligent intervention. The main purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the methods which are used in the mountain. To this end, ten important and widely used methods for vulnerability assessment are identified and introduced within the context of a rapid resource review. The study demonstrates that while each method has its advantages and disadvantages, no specific framework can be established as the dominant method for assessing mountain vulnerability. Instead, planners and designers of mountain landscapes must seek innovative and sophisticated solutions tailored to the specific purpose and scope of the study to preserve and enhance these natural treasures. This involves implementing strategies for conservation while making rational use of available resources.
