Research Article: Effect of an encapsulated blend of nano-selenium and vitamins C and E on growth performance, blood, immunity, and oxidative indices in Huso huso

A ۱۰-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with encapsulated Nano-selenium (NanoSe) and vitamins C and E at varying dosages (Control: free from the supplementations; T۱: ۰.۱, ۳۰, and ۱۰۰ mg/kg; T۲: ۰.۲, ۶۰, and ۲۰۰ mg/kg; T۳: ۰.۳, ۹۰, and ۳۰۰ mg/kg, respectively) on the growth performance, hematology, immunity and antioxidant indices of juvenile Huso huso. The fish, with an average initial weight of ۷۸.۵۴±۰.۹۰ g, were stocked in ۱۲ fiberglass tanks and fed with the respective diets for ۱۰ weeks. The fish fed with diets T۱ and T۲ exhibited significantly higher final weight, feed conversion ratio, and protein efficiency ratio compared to the fish fed with T۳ and the control diets (p<۰.۰۵). Additionally, the white blood cell count (WBC), hemoglobin (Hb), and neutrophil levels increased in the fish fed with T۱ and T۲ diets compared to the control group (p<۰.۰۵). The alternate complement activity (ACH۵۰) was higher in T۲ and T۳ groups compared to the control group (p>۰.۰۵). The serum lysozyme activity showed no significant difference across groups T۱, T۲, and T۳ (p>۰.۰۵). The result showed that IgM levels in the fish fed with the supplemented diets (T۱-T۳) showed no significant difference compared to the control group (p>۰.۰۵). The total lipids and albumin in T۱ and T۲, total protein in T۲, and cholesterol in all treated-groups were increased compared to the control group (p>۰.۰۵). The fish fed with supplemented diets had significantly lower levels of serum cortisol and glucose compared to the control group (p<۰.۰۵). Supplementation resulted in improved antioxidant status, as demonstrated by increased superoxide dismutase levels in the T۲ group and decreased malondialdehyde levels in all supplemented groups (T۱, T۲, and T۳) compared to the control group (p<۰.۰۵). This study suggests that dietary supplementation with a moderate mixture of NanoSe (۰.۲ mg/kg) and vitamins C (۶۰ mg/kg) and E (۲۰۰ mg/kg) positively promotes growth, improves some blood indices, stimulates the immune system, and reduces oxidative stress in juvenile Huso huso.
