چکیده مقاله:

This narrative review explores the electrophysiological effects of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in neuroscience, focusing on its interactions with neural tissues and potential therapeutic applications. Beginning with historical foundations in bioelectricity and plasma physics, the review integrates classical electrophysiological models with recent discoveries on plasma-generated reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) that modulate ion channel dynamics, neural excitability, and synaptic plasticity. The discussion highlights technological advances, including AI-driven optimization strategies for plasma treatment parameters. Critical challenges addressed include variability in plasma dosage and source characteristics, limited understanding of long-term neural impacts, and insufficient investigation of plasma effects on complex brain functions such as cognition and behavior. This review synthesizes current knowledge on these topics, emphasizing the need for multi-scale, systematic frameworks to bridge molecular, cellular, and systems neuroscience. Ultimately, it positions CAP as a versatile and promising tool for neuromodulation and neuroregeneration, while acknowledging the nuanced biological complexity and practical hurdles for clinical translation. By providing a comprehensive overview of mechanisms, applications, and challenges, this work aims to guide future interdisciplinary research efforts to harness plasma’s full potential in neuroscience.
