چکیده مقاله:
Batteries are now central to powering the modern world, particularly with the rising shift toward electric mobility and clean energy. Between ۲۰۲۰ and ۲۰۲۲, the share of electric vehicles (EVs) in global car sales increased from ۴% to ۱۴%, highlighting the growing demand for efficient and sustainable energy sources. Central to this transition are high-performance batteries, which support not only EVs but also the stability of the electricity grid. Their ability to store and discharge low-carbon energy makes them crucial during periods of fluctuating energy supply and demand. Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are currently the most widely used type of commercial battery. Their strong energy efficiency and high power density make them ideal for small to medium-sized uses such as portable electronics and passenger EVs. However, as energy needs evolve, concerns have emerged about the ability of Li-ion technology to serve more demanding sectors, like grid-scale storage, heavy-duty EVs, and aerospace. This has driven growing interest in new battery technologies. Scientists are working to enhance existing Li-ion systems while also developing alternative battery chemistries that could outperform them in terms of energy capacity, safety, and longevity. These innovations could play a pivotal role in expanding the reach of electrification and meeting future sustainability goals. In summary, the global shift toward electrification is driving rapid innovation in battery technology. While lithium-ion batteries continue to dominate, growing energy demands are encouraging the exploration of more advanced, scalable alternatives. These emerging solutions will be vital in shaping a cleaner, more energy-resilient future. In this paper, the various dimensions of this innovation and its applications will be examined.
