Mother tongue can have a significant impact on learning English grammar. The grammatical structures of the mother tongue may affect the way English sentences are understood and produced. Also, some grammatical patterns can cause common mistakes in second language learning. For this reason, awareness of these effects can help learning more effectively. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of mother tongue on learning English grammar. The method of this study is a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test design with a non-matched control group. The study population was all English language graduates in Zahedan language schools, ۱۰۰ people, of which ۴۰ people were selected as the study sample based on the research entry criteria and were randomly assigned to two groups of ۲۰ people (control and experiment). To measure the research variables, researcher-made questionnaires were used. Before the intervention, both groups were pre-tested, then the experimental group was given ۸ ۲-hour intervention sessions, two sessions per week for one month based on the intervention guide. But the control group did not receive any intervention. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance. The research findings showed that after the intervention, the mother tongue has an effect on learning English grammar.
