Phase change materials (PCMs) have been recognized as one of the new solutions for optimizing energy consumption and temperature control in the building industry. These materials are able to store and release thermal energy during phase change (from solid to liquid and vice versa). In particular, PCMs can be effective in reducing the heat load in summer and also reduce the need for heating in winter. By storing heat during the day and releasing it at night, these materials can maintain a more even temperature inside buildings, reducing the need for air conditioning and heating systems. As a result, the use of phase change materials not only helps save energy, but can also improve occupant comfort and reduce energy costs. Research shows that the use of these materials can save ۲۰ to ۳۰ percent in energy consumption and reduce its cost in the long run. The amount of savings depends on several factors, including the type of building, climate conditions, and how heating and cooling systems are used. This article provides an overview of the use of phase change materials in the building industry, highlighting the benefits, applications, and future research directions.
