Background and Aims: With the expansion of digital technologies and changing patterns of healthcare service delivery, generative artificial intelligence has emerged as a novel tool in the field of virtual care. This study aims to examine the applications, challenges, and opportunities of generative artificial intelligence in virtual care and patient interaction to provide a comprehensive picture of the potential of this technology in transforming the healthcare system. Methods: This research was conducted as a review through systematic search in scientific databases including PubMed, Scopus, IEEE Xplore, and Google Scholar. Published studies between ۲۰۱۸-۲۰۲۳ that examined the applications of generative artificial intelligence in virtual care were analyzed and reviewed. Results: Results showed that virtual assistants based on generative artificial intelligence are capable of providing services such as initial medical consultation, answering patient questions, and managing chronic diseases. These systems help increase treatment adherence through personalization of educational content, providing smart reminders, and continuous monitoring of patient status. Studies have also shown a ۲۳% reduction in unnecessary visits to healthcare centers and a ۳۵% increase in access to health services in underserved areas. The main challenges include privacy protection, data security, accuracy of provided information, and the digital divide in access to these technologies. Conclusion: Generative artificial intelligence has significant potential for transforming the healthcare system and improving patient interaction. This technology can serve as a complementary tool alongside traditional care to enhance the quality and accessibility of health services. However, the development of regulatory frameworks, ensuring data confidentiality, and designing human-centered systems are essential for effective utilization of this technology.
