Background and Aims: The healthcare industry is undergoing a paradigm shift with the integration of smart technologies, and hospitals are at the forefront of these advancements. Among various innovations, smart pharmacies have emerged as a crucial component in enhancing medication management, improving patient safety, and optimizing operational efficiency. This study examines the development and integration of smart pharmacies in hospitals from ۲۰۲۰ to ۲۰۲۴, analyzing their components, benefits, challenges, and future potential. Methods: This research explores smart pharmacy technologies, including automation, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), (IoT), and blockchain. It evaluates their impact on drug distribution, inventory management, and patient safety through recent implementations and case studies. Results: Definition of Smart Pharmacies: These pharmacies leverage advanced technologies such as automation, AI, ML, and IoT to improve medication distribution, patient safety, and inventory control. Technological Advancements: Automated Drug Dispensing Systems (ADS): Reduce human errors and improve medication accuracy. AI and ML: Predict medication demand, optimize inventory levels, and detect drug interactions. IoT Integration: Enables real-time monitoring of storage conditions and medication tracking. Blockchain: Enhances transparency in the pharmaceutical supply chain and prevents counterfeit drugs. Benefits of Smart Pharmacies: Enhanced medication safety through reduced prescription errors. Improved operational efficiency and reduced patient waiting times. Cost reduction by minimizing medication errors and optimizing inventory. Improved patient experience with timely and accurate drug delivery. Challenges and Considerations High Initial Investment: Significant costs for installation and staff training. System Integration Issues: Difficulty in merging new technologies with existing hospital systems. Data Privacy and Security Concerns: Risks associated with digital data management. Resistance to Change: Need for retraining staff to adapt to new technologies. Future Directions AI-Driven Enhancements: Further improvements in medication accuracy and virtual pharmacist interactions. Advanced Robotic Dispensing Systems: Expansion of robotic technologies for more efficient medication management. Augmented Reality Applications: Potential use of AR to streamline pharmacy operations and training. Conclusion: Smart pharmacies represent a transformative advancement in hospital medication management, significantly improving safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. While challenges such as integration, security, and staff adaptation remain, the long-term benefits of smart pharmacies outweigh these obstacles.
