چکیده مقاله:

This paper discusses raising Iranian EFL learners’ reading strategies awareness as well as the bi-directional transfer of this awareness from L1 to L2 and the reverse. Further, ittouches upon the notion of reading autonomy created as a result of the increased awareness in reading strategies. It is argued that through reading strategies instruction in L1, thereading strategies awareness is raised both in L1 and L2. The reverse is also true, that is,through reading strategies instruction in L2, the reading strategies awareness is raised both in L2 and L1. It is concluded that the instruction of reading strategies in a given languageleads to increased reading strategies awareness and as a result learner autonomy in reading in the language of instruction and any other language(s).
