From Modern Love to Psychological Challenges: A Comprehensive Review of the Impact of Social Media on Relationships

In recent decades, the expansion of technology and the increasing use of social media have significantly transformed communication patterns and human relationships. These changes have diverse impacts on mental health and satisfaction in romantic relationships. This review examines the effects of social media on human relationships and mental health through four key studies. The first study shows that face-to-face emotional support reduces the risk of depression, whereas social media-based support may increase it. The second study highlights significant generational differences in online relationship experiences between generations Y and Z. The third study finds that social media addiction leads to increased psychological distress and decreased satisfaction in romantic relationships. The fourth study reveals that social media can amplify negative aspects of interpersonal communication. Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each study, this review suggests that further research is needed to better understand and manage the challenges associated with social media's impact on human relationships and mental health.
