چکیده مقاله:

Marl is one of the problematic soils that in many countries of the world pose a critical risk to foundations of civil infrastructures. However, very limited information is available regarding marl soils stabilization. This paper is allocated to an experimental study in which Gholmankhaneh volcanic ash (GHVA) of Urmia, Iran as a local, natural, and environmentally friendly additive was used to stabilize the marl soil of Urmia, Iran. To this end, the influence of GHVA stabilizer contents of ۳, ۷, and ۱۰%, were evaluated through the maximum dry density (Standard Proctor Compaction Test) and optimum moisture content, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), and modulus of elasticity for curing times of ۷, ۱۴ and ۲۸-days. Based on the obtained results, the mixtures of marl soils stabilized with GHVA revealed satisfactory strength and durability characteristics. In this respect, the increase in GHVA content and duration increases the efficiency of stabilized marl soil. GHVA can be utilized as a substitute for the more conventional methods of marl soil stabilization and unpaved roadway improvement.
