چکیده مقاله:
Concrete is the most widely used construction material in civil engineering activities. It can be said that, after water, it is the most utilized substance in construction processes worldwide. Conventional concrete is made by mixing water, cement, and aggregates in specific proportions. Its versatility, durability, strength, and cost-effectiveness have made it one of the most common building materials globally. The use of reinforcement bars (rebar) alongside concrete to compensate for its low tensile strength has led to the widespread adoption of reinforced concrete structures, which have largely replaced steel-framed buildings. However, many older concrete structures now require strengthening. During the Sarpol-e Zahab earthquake, concrete buildings suffered damage and were deemed by experts to require retrofitting. Various methods exist for strengthening concrete structures, including: FRP sheet reinforcement, Steel jacketing of columns and beams, Foundation strengthening, adding concrete shear walls, installing infill walls, strengthening existing walls, adding steel bracing systems. This article examines different strengthening and retrofitting techniques for concrete structures following the Sarpol-e Zahab earthquake.
