Viscoelastic dampers have attracted the attention of researchers due to their affordable cost and ease of fabrication. The characteristics of viscoelastic dampers are directly dependent on the viscoelastic materials used in their construction, and given the wide range of available polymeric compounds, developing a damper that can provide the desired mechanical properties is an important and time-consuming process. In this study, two types of polymeric compositions based on natural rubber and chlorobutyl rubber were investigated. The results of cyclic loading showed that the chlorobutyl-based viscoelastic materials produced significantly greater damping. Subsequently, to examine the system more thoroughly, a full-scale cylindrical viscoelastic damper was constructed and subjected to cyclic loading using the actuator at the Disaster Management Research Center of Urmia University, under strain levels of ۰.۵%, ۱۰۰%, and ۱۵۰%. The damper demonstrated the ability to withstand cyclic loads without failure, even at high strain levels, and showed considerable damping performance.
