فخر مدبر و شجره نسبش

Fakhr-i Mudabbir was a well-known historian and writer of the early seventh century AH. Two of his works are extant: Shajarat al-Ansāb (also known as Baḥr al-Ansāb) and Ādāb al-Ḥarb wa al-Shajāʿa. Both books have been published and are available to researchers. This article focuses on Shajarat al-Ansāb, which is dedicated to the genealogy of Fakhr-i Mudabbir’s own family. The author claims that his motive for compiling this work was access to a genealogical document belonging to his ancestors, which was preserved at the court of Khusrau Malik, son of Khusrau Shāh (۵۵۹–۵۸۳/۱۱۶۴–۱۱۸۸). He brought the document to Lahore and extracted his family lineage from it. This effort inspired him to collect the genealogies of the Anṣār and Muhājirūn as well. Fakhr-i Mudabbir drew on various sources to compile his material. Based on an analysis of multiple sources, the author concludes that Fakhr-i Mudabbir made a significant error in constructing his family tree—an error that is addressed and corrected in this article.
