چکیده مقاله:
Carbon capture and utilization strategies are gaining attention as methods to mitigate global warming. Given the substantial demand for cementitious materials in the construction sector, CO₂ sequestration through carbonation reaction presents a promising option. Previous research has shown that incorporating CO₂ dry ice pellets directly into CEM I mortar mixtures can initiate early carbonation, yielding positive results. However, due to the significant environmental impact of CEM I, its use is declining. This study extends the investigation of this approach to alternative and more environmentally friendly binders, such as CEM II/A-LL and mixtures where ۳۰% of CEM I is replaced with calcined clay. Additionally, the behavior of CEM I at a concrete scale was examined for its potential in CO₂ sequestration. The results indicate that CO₂ absorption via dry ice pellets is highly dependent on the binder type and material scale. In some cases, significant absorption was not achieved, and the expected enhancement of mechanical properties was not observed as well. Thus, to advance this approach, it is crucial to modify binder compositions and mix designs to develop more compatible mixtures that retain the desired performance characteristics.
