چکیده مقاله:
Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is a pervasive mental health issue characterized by intense fear of social evaluation, avoidance behavior, and emotional distress, significantly impairing daily functioning. Affecting approximately ۱۲.۱% of the population at some point, SAD frequently co-occurs with major depressive disorder (MDD), emphasizing the need for effective treatment strategies. Research highlights that emotion regulation—the cognitive and behavioral processes involved in managing emotional responses—plays a crucial role in the etiology and treatment of SAD. Techniques such as cognitive reappraisal, reframing negative thoughts, and expressive suppression, controlling outward emotional expression, have been recognized as promising approaches for reducing anxiety symptoms, managing stress, and enhancing interpersonal functioning. The purpose of this article is to investigate the application and effectiveness of emotion regulation techniques within individual treatment frameworks for SAD. Specifically, it aims to evaluate how strategies like cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression can improve adaptive skills, decrease stress, and enable individuals to sustain meaningful interpersonal interactions. The article synthesizes findings from relevant theoretical frameworks and empirical studies and discusses the mechanisms by which these techniques address the key emotional dysregulation underlying SAD. Moreover, it examines the challenges and limitations associated with different regulation strategies, including the potential pitfalls of reliance on expressive suppression. By exploring the role of emotion regulation, this paper aims to contribute to the development of tailored, evidence-based therapeutic approaches for SAD, considering individual and contextual factors for optimal effectiveness. The findings underscore the potential of integrating emotion regulation strategies into individualized therapy to help patients reduce stress, enhance their capacity for emotional control, and improve long-term interpersonal functioning. Recommendations are provided for clinicians and researchers to further investigate and apply these techniques to promote healthier social lives for individuals with SAD.
