چکیده مقاله:

Chemical modification of ion exchange polystyrene resin by amine grafting onto its surface was carried out in this study. In this regard, triethylenetetramine (TETA) was chemically attached to the surface of polystyrene resin following the reaction of thionyl chloride (SOCl۲) with sulfonated groups available in the ion exchange polystyrene resin. The chemical modification of polystyrene resins was evaluated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was also used to observe the surface changes due to chemical reactions. FTIR spectra of modified polystyrene resins revealed the characteristics peaks assigning to N-H bonds in amine groups which shows the modified PS-beads were successfully functionalized with TETA amine. The modified polystyrene beads containing amine groups on their surface can be potentially considered for CO۲ adsorption studies.
