Considering the predicted climate changes and the unique characteristics of the Damavand region, housing design in this area requires innovative solutions that not only ensure thermal comfort for residents but also reduce energy consumption and adapt to environmental conditions. Smart architecture, by utilizing advanced technologies and automated systems, enhances building performance in response to climatic variations and user needs. This study investigates sustainable design strategies for the cold and mountainous climate of Damavand, including optimal building orientation, the use of materials with high thermal capacity, effective and durable insulation, the design of semi-open and controlled spaces, and the use of renewable energy sources. The role of smart technologies in energy management, temperature and humidity control, the use of natural lighting, and ventilation is also examined. The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT), smart and automated control systems, and sensor technologies plays a significant role in improving energy efficiency and enhancing the quality of life for residents in such housing. Moreover, this research explores the challenges and future opportunities for designing and constructing sustainable and smart housing in Damavand and offers practical solutions to overcome existing barriers and realize the potential of this approach. The ultimate aim of this study is to provide a design framework for future sustainable and smart housing in the cold and mountainous climate of Damavand, which not only mitigates environmental impacts but also ensures the comfort and well-being of residents in the face of climate change. This research adopts a descriptive-analytical method to examine various aspects of sustainable housing design with a smart architectural approach in Damavand County, Tehran Province.
