Within the framework of sustainable construction design principles, the selection and use of environmentally friendly materials have gained increasing importance. Bamboo, as a natural and renewable material, possesses mechanical properties similar to steel and aluminum. It has unique characteristics, including rapid growth, renewability, and resilience to diverse weather conditions. For instance, bamboo can reach considerable heights within three to five years, growing significantly faster than traditional wood sources. These qualities make bamboo a sustainable and accessible resource for the construction industry. The use of bamboo-based materials can be considered a technological advancement in sustainable architectural design, particularly by incorporating local materials. Due to its lightweight nature, high tensile strength, fibrous composition, and ease of harvesting, bamboo is regarded as 'green steel.' Its application can lead to reduced energy consumption and lower reliance on natural resources compared to conventional construction materials. Moreover, its recyclability and reusability contribute to minimizing construction waste. Bamboo finds applications in green buildings, including sustainable homes and temporary shelters for survivors of natural disasters. Additionally, modern and innovative architectural structures have been designed with bamboo as a primary element. However, further research is required to enhance processing and preservation techniques and promote awareness regarding bamboo's advantages in the construction industry. Encouraging its utilization in architectural projects will be a crucial step toward advancing sustainability in building practices.
