Carbon paste electrode was modified by disodium ۲,۴-diamino-۷-methylbenzo[g] pteridine-۵,۱۰-dioxide to fabricate a sensor for potentiometric determination of vanadyl ion (VO۲+) in aqueous medium. The new ligand was synthesized in three steps with high yield. The optimal composition of the carbon paste was made of graphite powder (۶۴.۵%), ionophore (۱۶.۶%), paraffin oil (۱۷.۸%), and sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB, ۱.۱%). The electrode exhibited a constant sensitivity of ۳۰.۲۰ ± ۰.۵ mV to VO۲+ ions over a concentration range of ۵ mM to ۱ mM. The detection limit was calculated to be ۵ mM with a response time of less than ۳۵ s. The electrode showed to be highly reproducible over a period of ۳ weeks. This sensor exhibits high selectivity to VO۲+ ions and was successfully employed for potentiometric titration of VO۲+ ions with EDTA.
