Investigating the Influence of Operating Conditions on the Combined Steam and Carbon Dioxide Reforming of Methane Performance in the Presence of Ni/ZrO۲ Catalyst

In the present study, Ni/ZrO۲ catalyst was synthesized via a co-precipitation approach, and its catalytic activity was evaluated in Combined Steam and Carbon dioxide Reforming of Methane (CSCRM) reaction at a temperature range of ۷۷۳ K–۱۲۷۳ K, CO۲:H۲O ratio of ۰.۵-۳ and (CO۲ + H۲O)/CH۴ ratio of ۰.۵-۳. The results demonstrated that the higher (CO۲+H۲O)/CH۴ ratio and temperature were required for CH۴ conversion of about ۱۰۰%. The effect of CO۲/H۲O ratio was little on the CO and H۲ yield. A (CO۲+H۲O)/CH۴ ratio of ۱.۵ associated with CO۲/H۲O ratio of ۰.۵ at the minimum temperature of ۱۰۷۳ K was the required reaction condition for the synthesis gas (syngas) formation with H۲/CO ratio of about ۲. The temperature, type, and amount of the oxidizing agent greatly affected the amount of coke deposition. The least temperature of ۱۰۷۳ K and (CO۲+H۲O)/CH۴ ratio higher than ۱.۵ irrespective of CO۲:H۲O ratio was obtained as proper operation conditions to avoid coke formation. Moreover, CO۲ revealed a higher portion than H۲O in coke formation in CSCRM reaction.
