Experimental Investigation of Energy Consumption and CO۲ Emission in Cement Kiln in Effect of Replacement Natural Pozzolan by Method of Grinding Clinker and Pozzolan Separately

In this research, natural pozzolanic materials were used in cement production to reduce the emission of CO۲ and energy consumption. The rate of substitution of cement with natural pozzolan powder varied from ۲۰% to ۵۰% in ۱۰۰ samples. Compressive strength tests were carried out on mortar specimens (۴×۴×۱۶ cm۳) after ۲, ۷, and ۲۸ days. The obtained activity index was approximately ۸۵% and volcanic ash was pozzolan. The compressive strength values changed from ۱۲۲ to ۳۱۸ kg/cm۲ after ۷ days and from ۲۰۱ to ۴۳۳ kg/cm۲ after ۲۸ days. However, the reduction of CO۲ emission with ۲۰% to ۵۰% of additive amounted from ۱۳۰.۷۴ tons to ۴۱۹.۳۲ tons of CO۲ per ton of clinker. By using ۳ to ۵۳% of additives, electricity consumption decreases from ۱.۸۹ to ۳۳.۳۹ kWh per ton of clinker. Moreover, this amount of additive can raise energy savings from ۹۹۱۶۰.۸ to ۱۷۵۱۸۴۱.۸ kJ per ton of clinker.
