Eco-Friendly Hydrothermal Synthesis of CuO Nanoparticles Using Natural Materials as Reducing and Capping Agents

There is a growing interest in the development of environmentally friendly synthesis methods for nanomaterials. The purpose and also the novelty of this study is to investigate the hydrothermal synthesis of CuO nanoparticles using natural materials as both reducing and capping agents. The focus is on assessing the photocatalytic properties of the synthesized nanoparticles for the degradation of organic dyes. The CuO nanoparticles were prepared through a hydrothermal synthesis method. Kiwi juice and Sumac extract were used as both the reducing and capping agents in this novel synthesis approach. The resulting brown precipitate was subjected to characterization using various techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, FT-IR, and EDS. The results provided insights into the size, morphology, crystallinity, and elemental composition of the nanoparticles. Furthermore, the photocatalytic performance of the synthesized CuO nanoparticles was evaluated by testing their ability to degrade Rhodamine B dye. The results showed that the nanoparticles achieved a dye removal efficiency of up to ۸۳% within ۴۰ minutes of UV light irradiation.
