چکیده مقاله:
The presence of geosmin (GSM) in water has damaged the product's reputation and led to customer distrust. This compound and its metabolites have posed various health challenges during water treatment. This study introduced an effective, eco-friendly, reproducible method for removing GSM from water. To accomplish this objective, the wood waste powder was methylated with dimethyl sulfate in an aqueous-alcoholic environment and alkaline conditions to enhance its ability to absorb this compound. The modified wood powder was then used to absorb GSM in laboratory conditions effectively, and the results were analyzed using GC-mass spectrometry. The findings suggested that methylating the wood powder improved its ability to remove GSM from water. Based on the conducted experiments, it has been determined that the most efficient technique for eliminating GSM from water involves the utilization of ۰.۱ grams of modified wood waste powder over ۱۰ min while maintaining a pH level of ۷. Under the conditions of the experiment, ۹۱.۲ % of the geosmin was effectively removed from the aqueous phase utilizing the designated absorbent. The equilibrium models were also used to analyze different isotherms to predict the adsorption capacity of Geosmin onto the alkylated wood waste powder. The results indicate that the best-fit isotherm for this study was the Langmuir isotherm with R۲= ۰.۹۹۶. To evaluate the reusability of the adsorbent, the modified wood waste powder was separated from the mixture and used again to absorb geosmin. According to the results, the efficiency of the recycled adsorbent did not show a significant decrease when compared to the fresh material. Comparing this method with previous approaches confirmed its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
