چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Wounds are disruptions in the integrity of the skin or mucous membranes caused by various factors. The healing process involves complex stages. In this study the properties and effects of the extract of the plant Rhus coriaria (sumac) on wound healing are investigated. Anti-inflammatory properties: Sumac has attracted attention due to its ability to inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-۱β. The extract reduces the MPO enzyme and cathepsin, which reduces inflammation and accelerates wound healing. Antioxidant properties: Sumac, which is rich in phytochemical compounds, has strong antioxidant properties that reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress, thus accelerating the healing process. Antibacterial properties: Sumac is an effective antibacterial agent capable of eliminating antibiotic-resistant bacteria, significantly reducing bacterial presence and fighting infections associated with wounds. In addition, the extract creates a favorable environment for wound healing by preventing the formation of biofilms. Healing properties: The extract promotes collagen deposition and stimulates the formation of myofibroblasts, accelerating wound healing and epithelialization. By reducing inflammation, it provides a favorable environment for epithelial cell migration and proliferation, resulting in a significant improvement in wound contraction. Conclusion: The use of sumac extract as an effective natural treatment in wound healing can improve the efficacy of pharmaceutical therapies and reduce the side effects of chemical medications. This cost-effective option may improve the quality of patients’ life.
