چکیده مقاله:

Background and Objective: Delayed wound healing in patients, particularly among the elderly with underlying conditions such as diabetes, is a significant medical concern. This can lead to pain, complications, prolonged treatment, and even the need for reconstructive surgery, imposing a considerable social and financial burden on individuals and society. Preventing and reducing healthcare-associated infections and ensuring rapid, complication-free wound healing are top priorities for any health ministry, requiring significant effort and resources. Various methods are employed worldwide for wound healing, among which vacuum therapy stands out. By applying negative pressure to the affected area, it is recognized as a non-invasive approach to wound treatment and has become a contemporary topic in medicine. It is utilized by physicians and wound care specialists for various types of wounds, including surgical wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, and pressure sores. However, vacuum therapy is not suitable for infected wounds, cancerous wounds, or those in areas with poor blood supply. Material and method: This research is descriptive-analytical and library-based. Data collection was conducted using articles and studies related to the research topic from websites such as SID, Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed. Results: Clinical studies have shown that vacuum therapy reduces interstitial fluids, thereby decreasing swelling. It prevents the drying of the wound surface, provides mechanical stability at the wound site, and removes harmful exudates that could impede healing. By increasing blood flow to the wound area, it creates optimal conditions for the formation of granulation tissue. However, if the suction pressure is not appropriate for the wound, it can lead to bleeding and complications for the patient. Conclusion: Despite the higher costs compared to other wound healing methods, vacuum therapy creates favorable conditions for the formation of granulation tissue and accelerates wound healing.
