A Systematic Review of the Efficacy of Wharton’S Jelly-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells from the Umbilical Cord in the Treatment of Chronic Wounds

The healing of chronic skin wounds remains a major challenge in current healthcare. Disruption or impairment in any phase of wound healing can lead to chronic wounds. Given the growing population affected (۲.۵% of the USA population) and the inadequacy of current interventions, new approaches, such as the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), particularly Wharton's Jelly - derived mesenchymal stem cells (WJMSCs) from the umbilical cord, have been proposed, either alone or in combination with biosynthetic scaffolds. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of WJMSCs in the healing of chronic and non-healing wounds.
